Candlelight Concerts this Weekend

VWC is very excited to be performing our Annual Candlelight Concerts once again in the UVa. Chapel this weekend. We will be holding two concerts:

Friday, Dec. 4th at 8pm
Sunday, Dec. 6th at 2pm

If you are in Virginia or the DC area this weekend, we would love to see you!

We'll also be holding our next Alumnae Board of Trustees meeting on Sunday, after the concert, in Newcomb Hall Student Activities Center. You are welcome to chat with Claudia Fletcher, our Chairwoman, after the concert, or sit in on our meeting if you are interested in joining in the future. The topic of most of the meeting will be...PLANNING OUR ANNIVERSARY CONCERT! Hope to see you there!

Reunite with past conductors

If you've been wondering what your VWC directors are doing now, you'll have the chance to find out at the Anniversary Concert!

Libby Moore Slade, Jim Dearing, and Donna Plasket are all planning on coming back to work with us in April, which is incredibly exciting! They will be conducting some of their favorite pieces from the VWC archives, and I'm sure they are looking forward to reconnecting with all of you.

There will be plenty of opportunities over the course of the weekend to reminisce with your old directors, be it at our full group rehearsal or one of the various alumnae reunion activities we have in the works. Don't let it pass you by!

Pass it on :)

Happy Thanksgiving, ladies! We hope you all had a wonderful day and were surrounded by family and friends.

Speaking of family and friends--we would love for you to share this website with your fellow VWC alums. Obviously, if you are looking at this site right now, chances are you saw the website on either or Save-the-Date postcard, or on our Facebook page. We really want this site to reach as many alums as possible, and think that the best way to do ensure this is for you all to help us out!

So please, talk to your former Vdub friends and find out of they've visited the blog yet. We want to make this anniversary concert the biggest yet, and word can travel through the grapevine pretty fast with just a little bit of help from you :)

Why all the giraffe print? The Story of Waly

Many of you who were members of VWC before we were disbanded might be wondering, "What is with the giraffe-print theme?"--a very good question! So I'm going to share the story of why the newly reformed VWC chose Waly, a giraffe, as their mascot.

Our wonderful director Kae Renae Mitchell shared this story with us: she compared the Women's Chorus to one of those plastic giraffe toys, the ones that have wobbly legs that you can knock over, but then their legs straighten and they stand back up on their own. The Chorus has been through some tough times, but thanks to some of you amazing alums, the group got back up on it's feet and is now just as great as ever!

Managing Board still shares this story with new members every year, and the group's history is something we hold dear to our hearts. So, what more appropriate design for this blog than the spots of our mascot, that stands for just how resilient we VDubs can be?

Comments/Suggestions, How to "follow" the blog

Just a couple quick notes on how you can help us make the most of this blog. Our goal with this blog is to save money on paper mailings and avoid using the alumnae listserv too frequently, as well as to make this an interactive forum where you can voice your suggestions and just keep in touch with fellow alums!

So, if you'd like to comment on anything you see on this blog, you can either:
1. make a comment on a post directly on the page, or
2. email vwcanniversary@gmail.com. We will check this account regularly and can answer any questions or more private concerns you might have!

Also, if you want to be notified whenever we make new posts (which might be a good idea, as we'll be posting updates fairly sporadically), you can become a "Follower" of the blog. Just go to the bottom right corner of the page and follow the instructions :)

Vdub love! xoxo
