Why all the giraffe print? The Story of Waly

Many of you who were members of VWC before we were disbanded might be wondering, "What is with the giraffe-print theme?"--a very good question! So I'm going to share the story of why the newly reformed VWC chose Waly, a giraffe, as their mascot.

Our wonderful director Kae Renae Mitchell shared this story with us: she compared the Women's Chorus to one of those plastic giraffe toys, the ones that have wobbly legs that you can knock over, but then their legs straighten and they stand back up on their own. The Chorus has been through some tough times, but thanks to some of you amazing alums, the group got back up on it's feet and is now just as great as ever!

Managing Board still shares this story with new members every year, and the group's history is something we hold dear to our hearts. So, what more appropriate design for this blog than the spots of our mascot, that stands for just how resilient we VDubs can be?

  1. Thanks for sharing the story--I don't think I knew it, even though I was a part of the leg-straightening. I thought it was just from the song!
